Have Fun While Losing Weigh

“Okay”, you are sitting there saying to yourself, “this lady has lost her mind…she needs for the guys in the white coats to haul her away to the funny farm! No way can losing weight be fun!”

Well…you could be right about me needing to be locked up but in this case, I really do know what I’m talking about. It all depends on two things: finding the right weight loss plan to follow and your attitude.

Finding the Plan

Generally a plan not only consists of a “diet” – food that will promote weight loss, but also an exercise plan. Here are a few tips to help you choose.

* Losing weight needs to be done the right way. The healthy way. This means using a nutritional diet program and getting your body moving. This doesn’t mean that have to spend hours in the gym. It simply means that the only way to effectively lose weight and keep it off is to get some sort of exercise. Walking is one of the best and easiest exercises for weight loss.

* Choose a diet program that offers a complete nutritional approach to weight loss. While you do want to limit useless calories and some fat from your diet, you also want one that includes nutritious, healthy foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, and proteins. Most importantly, your overall health should work into the equation.

* Avoid diets that are too restrictive or considered a fad diet. These are very hard to stick with and will sabotage your commitment to losing weight and harm your health.

* Your diet program should promote healthy lifelong eating habits so that once you lose the weight you want, you will keep it off.

Your Attitude

If you start a weight loss program with the attitude that it is going to be nothing but long weeks (maybe months) of self-sacrifice and misery, you really don’t have a very good chance of succeeding. You’ve pretty much given up before you’ve started.

On the other hand, if you begin your weight loss program with the attitude that it is going to be an adventure with great rewards, you will succeed. There can be rewards along the way and great rewards waiting at the end of the journey if you make plans to enjoy the trip.

So…turn that frown upside down and lets get on with it.

Setting Goals

The first thing you must do when you begin a weight loss program is to set realistic goals. Setting goals in stages makes them easier to accomplish and provides encouragement. You didn’t put the weight on over night and it won’t come off over night. Plan to lose a couple of pounds a week and set your goals accordingly. Remember: success breeds success. Keep track of the weight you lose and the foods you eat in a notebook. This will help you see which foods and beverages are helping or hurting your weight loss.

Now about those rewards!

Give yourself rewards along the way. Plan rewards for each time you reach a goal. For example: At the end of the first week of your program, treat yourself to a bubble bath…light candles, play soothing music…make it a wonderful experience. Feel proud! After you have lost 10 pounds, treat yourself to a professional manicure or pedicure as a reward. When you have lost a dress size, buy yourself something in a smaller size.

Make friends along the way

You may need support to help you be successful. Sharing plans and goals with others can also help you stay on track. You can join a group or solicit family and friends. Many community centers have various exercise programs and may even have weight loss programs and support groups. There are a variety of online communities to choose from as well. Some have forums and chat rooms where you can find others who have similar obstacles or challenges.

All of these “Tips” make losing weight fun! You will meet a lot of people who have the same goals you do and make some lasting friendships along the way. And more importantly, when you achieve the weight loss you desire, you will have a better chance of keeping it off and being healthy – for a lifetime!
